Brandon Carr...in Denver

This off season the Broncos will be playing the role of Anti-Raiders, with an enormous amount of salary cap money available to improve their team.  The Skip Bayless's of the world can sing Tebow's praises all they want, but other players will provide the greatest insight into Tebow's future as an NFL quarterback.  How many offensive skill position players will want to go and play with Tim Tebow?  If you are Reggie Wayne, Desean Jackson, Wes Welker, or Dwayne Bowe do you have any interest in joining the 'Tebow Show' and risk putting up inferior statistics and thus limiting your future earnings?

If Denver is locked into the Tebow run-oriented offense who will Denver target to improve their team?  The Broncos already have 2 fine pass rushers in Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil and a solid offensive line.  If you look at a breakdown of their roster the biggest need going forward is in the defensive secondary.   It's not that the secondary is bad, it is just getting long in the tooth.  Brian Dawkins will be entering his 17th season, Champ Bailey his 14th, and Andre Goodman his 11th.  That is 3/4's of the starting secondary (2 corners and 1 safety) needing replacement in the near future.  Could Brandon Carr be their biggest target?  How about safety Dashon Golden from San Francisco?  Both players would bring a shot of youth to a soon to be ancient defensive secondary in Denver.

If Denver is going to win with Tim Tebow under center they will need to build and maintain a wrecking-crew defense just like any other team lacking one of the elite quarterbacks.  Adding Brandon Carr could have the same effect as Houston's signing of Jonathan Joseph before last season.

Potential Denver Defensive Secondary Targets:
  • Brandon Carr CB
  • Terrell Thomas CB
  • LaRon Landry S
  • Tom Zbikowski S
  • Dashon Golden S
