Man vs Pioli: Draft Edition

Back in 2009, a local KC sports radio personality recommended a unique way to view and participate in the NFL draft.  He suggested fans with a high interest in the draft make their picks along with the Chiefs and keep track of those picks in order to evaluate the result.  In preparation for the 2012 draft I want to take the opportunity to evaluate the picks from the last three years. The rules are simple, the picks can not be made with the benefit of hindsight. These picks were made during the draft itself at the time of each individual pick.  Some were straight shots in the dark that panned out (Mike Wallace) while others were highly informed (for a novice) flops (Cornelius Ingram).

I have only included the first five rounds because I was unable to keep up with the pace of the draft after that point.  I have included FA pick-ups in the tentative rosters at the end of the article because it would be difficult to recreate a free-agency period and gauge the interest of free agents with any degree of accuracy.  I had the most trouble deciding what to do with my QB spot since, at the time, I would not have traded the 2009 2nd round pick for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel.  If I did this exercise after each individual season I would have been forced to confront the QB problem, but this little game was more about evaluating how an individual person without access to the college players (outside of TV) or game film would fare against a highly paid NFL front office.

*The Chiefs signed Stanford Routt today, so I included him in the Rosters
