Chiefs Updated Pre-Draft Visits

Here is the updated list of players the Chiefs have brought in for extra workouts or interviews along with a projected round in which the player is expected to be drafted:

Name Pos School Projected
Ryan Tannehill QB Texas A&M 1st
Brock Osweiler QB Arizona St. 2 or 3
Kirk Cousins QB Michigan St. 2nd
Juron Criner WR Arizona 3 or 4
AJ Jenkins WR Illinois 3 to 5
Donald Stephenson OT Oklahoma 3 or 4
Mitchell Schwartz OT California 3 or 4
Brandon Brooks OG Miami (Ohio) 2 or 3
Ben Jones C Georgia 3 or 4
James Hanna TE Oklahoma 5 or 6
Cyrus Gray RB Texas A&M 5 or 6
Doug Martin RB Boise St. 2nd
Robert Turbin RB Utah St. 5 or 6
Drew Novak DT Western Michigan 5 to 7
Chandler Jones DE/OLB Syracuse 1 or 2
Michael Brockers DL LSU 1st
Dontari Poe NT Memphis 1st
Bruce Irvin OLB West Virginia 3 to 5
Trumaine Johnson CB Montana 2nd
Brandon Taylor S LSU 4 or 5

This list is interesting because it does not contain any of the ILB's expected to be selected in the 1st round, such as Luke Kuechly from Boston College or Dont'a Hightower from Alabama.  It also looks as though a 2nd round talent such as Mychal Kendricks out of Cal is also off the team's radar.  I find this rather surprising considering it is a position of need and the players available at the position match up well with the Chief's position in the draft.

I think it is safe to assume the Chiefs plan to go in one of two directions with their 1st round selection.  If they follow the list above, they probably intend to spend that selection on Ryan Tannehill if he is still available.  If Tannehill is absent, they are probably going to go the D-Line route because Poe and Brockers are the only other players projected to go in the 1st round that have made post-combine visits to the team.  Wow, the idea of drafting a third LSU defensive lineman (Brockers) or an underachieving nose tackle (Poe) with the 11th pick in the draft sure doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.  The presence of projected 1st rounders like Poe and Brockers and the absence of 2nd round defensive linemen such as Brandon Thompson and Alameda Ta'amu seems to indicate the team intends to use its top selection to bolster the defensive line and potentially ignore 2nd round value along the defensive line.

Perhaps the draft visits are all a smokescreen and this list is not indicative of how the Chief's draft board is shaping up.  I guess we will find out in 13 days.  If the Chief's 8 picks are littered with names from the above list we will have a better idea of the teams drafting SOP.  I hope the team is not drafting based on need in the 1st round, but the above list seems to indicate they are hellbent on drafting a defensive linemen.
